Last month I started a series of studies on the elements and the gemstones that correlate. December’s element was Fire. This month, let’s explore Earth.
So I was thinking about what to blog about in December and I started thinking about the wildfires that are being fought near me in Western North Carolina. Thank goodness the worst is over, but there are still plenty of hotspots to keep the firefighters busy. So perhaps smoke and fire? Which then got me thinking about the elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. So consider this month as the first in a series about gemstones and the elements.
I have a problem…I love to buy stones. I have my online sources to get some of the coolest stones, and it makes my heart sing when I find something new. Recently, my guy in India sent me a picture of some cabochons and I just flipped over the beautiful colors. I was a goner and they were going to be mine.
It’s October, and my birthday is in October. I like to think it should be more than just a birth-day; I like the idea of a birth-month. What’s better than a whole month of cake? Well, nothing really, but a month full of Opals, the birthstone for October, comes a close second.
In so many parts of the country, we have had so much rain. (I’ve got this incredible urge to build an ark and collect two of everything..LOL). In all seriousness, my heart goes out to those affected by the flooding. But at the end of the rainstorm, we see rainbows.
Summertime, and the first thing most people think of is…let’s go to the beach, where the breezes blow and the water refreshes! Well, here in the mountains, it’s not quite as accessible, but I have tons of inspiration in seashells. I’m thinking paua/abalone, pearls, mother of pearl and coral. Hear the word fossil, and most people go directly to thinking about dinosaurs, arid dusty sites crawling with paleontologists, and perhaps even Jurassic Park comes to mind.
Jackie Kennedy once said, “Pearls are always appropriate”, and I couldn’t agree more. Whether you’re going to a fancy event or heading out in your jeans, pearls fill the bill. Since pearls are June’s birthstone, guess what we’re talking about? Umm….pearls!
While April showers were pretty scarce here in North Carolina, the flowers have obliged us anyway and Spring has sprung! This month’s blog celebrates Spring and all the greenery and florals that it has to offer. Come, take a walk in my garden! [Read more…]
