Necklaces, pendants, earrings, bracelets and more! Some feature gemstones and fossils while others showcase freshwater pearls and fine metals. Founded in 2000, Jewelry by Nadine (formerly Wire Designs Jewelry by Nadine) has been creating one-of-a-kind jewelry, beginning with wire-wrapped gemstones, beads and pearls. Seeking a way to include more substantial frames around the gemstones, Nadine began to learn about working with precious metal clay (PMC). This enabled her to add to her repertoire.
Here’s a classic wire-wrapped ocean jasper pendant. This is the basic oval shape wrapped in sterling silver wire. However, any shape can be wrapped in wire, either gold or silver, and she has hearts, triangles, squares and free forms (non-symmetrical shapes cut as the gem cutters determine). She likes to use minimal wire to showcase each gemstone in its natural beauty. We’d love you to shop handcrafted jewelry online with us now.
In 2006, Nadine was introduced to a new medium brought here from Japan: PMC. This offered the opportunity to add more metal to the gemstones. She developed a method to wire wrap onto a metal background that she had created using the PMC. An early example is featured in the picture where fine silver is the background and the opal is showcased in the center.
PMC has also afforded the opportunity to create all metal (fine silver, copper or bronze) jewelry in a huge variety of shapes. See more about that in the custom jewelry discussion.
