Like many stones, labradorite is named after the place where it was first found – Labrador, which is in Canada. I have always admired the incredible fire and colors in labradorite, also known as a “fire stone”.
It is known for its changing colors and aids the body and spirit in healing itself. Let me start with some of the healing properties of this stone.
- It helps in calming an overactive mind that thinks too much (like the thoughts of what I need to do) and ideas (of new designs and/or ways to turn a stone or technique into a new piece of jewelry). That’s why I am attracted to it. 🙂
- Labradorite is also helpful to the lungs and maybe a support to minor respiratory problems and aid digestion and metabolism.
This is a piece of labradorite that I cut off a large chunk loaded with fire. I wanted to leave it almost in its natural state because of the amount of fire inside it, and at every angle. I added a garnet on the bail.

This picture is the remaining piece, polished up as a cabochon to use in another piece of jewelry.
Here’s to your protection, creativity, and healing!
Warm regards,

P.S. I currently have a few labradorite pieces on Etsy.
